Should I be concerned about the metal I’m sure it is just because that’s where it broke. Hopefully the axle acted as a plug.
im assuming it’s fine.

I feel so left out [dunno]
That's the telltale sign that they're cheating on you.

Also I know you just can’t open these up and do a gear change but I’ve never known the technical reason. so if someone could explain that
Also if I can’t get it out should I attempt to open up the diff and try that route?
Also has anyone heard anything about dodge making some changes to the differential about 6 months ago? A reputable source at my local track told me they did a slight redesign but I have not seen anything about it.

Use a magnet and see what you can pick up. A gear change is the ring and pinion. They all use the same case. It is all about shimming and measuring to change gears. With these cars it is just easier to chance the whole thing out. Oil does go all the way to the end so you don't want to mess up the axle seals, they will leak

Because ZF doesn't sell parts separately that I know of, they don't want people fouling with their stuff, when it breaks, it's replaced as a whole unit.
I have opened them up though when my buddy broke his & their perty simple, on certain parts you could take 2 broken diffs to make 1 good 1, but still after all that work would you want to take a chance of it not working or lasting very long & having to do it all over again.

I think they did a bearing upgrade at one time.

@jonx96 , just get a new 1, me & a couple buddy's have bought used 3.09's that for 1 reason or another didn't last long so we ended up buying new one's & haven't had issues for a while with new.
You can put all your suspension & spindle stuff back together & slide the axles in when you put the new diff back in at the same time.

Next Saturday I'm replacing B Mason's 3.09 with new one, his was used too but he has a lot of testing & passes on it. This will make the 8th one that I've done & have done axles 3 times & with either job I always drop the diff to do.
Getting perty fast at it.

If it were me.......I'd be wanting to open the diff and take a look at everything.
Yeah, open it, look, then order new one.

After just a few replacements, you're well into the territory of making sense to just doing a 9 inch conversion.

LOL, that's big money for big HP. Not doing just mine but 4 other HC's, some a couple of times.
