Any amount of leaking can cause the computer to think it's running lean when it's not because it can pull in air--a vacuum leak upstream of the catalytics.

Exhaust valve is closed unless it's exhausting exhaust. Not sure how air could get into the engine...

There are 4 valves per bank, all collected upstream of the catalytic. If there's a leak, there can be vacuum on the pipes that have their valves closed from the one that's open. Recall, they are trying to scavenge--that only happens because of lower pressures from the flow--so a leak can draw in cooler air from the engine bay and affect the O2 sensors.

No, the head is fine. If you are worried about a small leak use the remflex gaskets. All the headers I have installed I have used these with no leaks. I also use arp header bolts and torque them to 20ft lbs. Sucks but can be done.

Have you ever had carbon buildup or dirty mating surfaces like that? How did you clean them? Thanks

Here is how we did my exhaust ports on my headers and about the 100 other sets of headers installed at the shop.

Scotch Brite or 3m bristle disk.
https://www.3m.com/3M/en_US/p/d/b40064937/ (Sold on snapon trucks), clean up exhaust ports.

Gasket and rtv. The machine surfaces have some tolerance. The gasket and rtv will take up the slack and compress and seal. Your surfaces look just fine. Torque to spec and drive it.

If you really want your mind blown, take a flat level and see if your exhaust flange on the manifold is flat. 😉

Paint and gasket remover or Easy Off oven cleaner (not the no fumes one). Be careful don’t get it on paint!

Easy off will eat aluminum--so gotta be careful with it.

Brake clean, red scotch brite, and remflex gaskets is the way I’m going it seems. I used rtv on my supercharger before and had to use a pry bar to get it off, so no rtv on the headers for me - not enough room

Thanks, definitely took a lot of elbow grease to get the ports clean and all the carbon off. 3m white roloc with 90 degree angle die grinder and red scotch brite sheets. I recommend a little wd 40 with the bristle disc, scubs more instead of marring the surface

Ok, looks like I might be running into an issue. Still need to torque and crush the gasket, but I’m still not sure that’s going to give me enough room. Is anyone running the 2” primary kooks long tube headers on their challenger hellcat? How much room do you have on the passenger side? 1 pipe is just hitting the ribs on the shock tower on the passenger side. After I crush the gasket I “should” have room, but just a hair. Anyone that could take/post some pics I’d really appreciate it
