Yeah, it's 2 pins that's cut 1/2 out at the end to match each other.

I’m hoping it just makes sense when I get home. Everything is back together besides these shims. When i pried out they came out without being ready. I believe they all go on the driver side. But if someone is exactly sure that’d help.

On the 1 that I took apart I think it was evenly shimmed on each side, not 100% sure on that but I think so.
Put them back in like that & put some gear paint on ring & pinion & bolt the 2 halfs of housing back together snug & rotate the ds yoke a few times & take back apart to see how the pattern looks on the ring & pinion, if looks good, fine, if not, adjust shims from 1 side or another to get a good pattern.

I guess you took break cleaner & cleaned out all the parts & inner housing to make sure there are no small pieces of metal anywhere ?

Since there's a wear pattern already you can compare against that to see if it matches or shifts to either side.

And see if the shims are the same thickness or not , & adjust according to that if needed.

Kind of restating what's above.

Shims in a differential need to go back exactly where they came out of. They adjust the lash between the gears in a precise way. Not only do you have an established wear pattern, but it also needs to be in the correct spot!

I told him to pry slowly incase there were loose pieces and he said it flew apart and is why his leg and foot caught it
I will say for not wrenching on something like this before, he is doing good:)

That's a good point to take a lot of pics as you take something apart to refer back to.
