Not much of a build but I fight enough issues and try learning enough stuff I figured it was time for a thread.
Well today I broke an axle chasing a new PB. Maybe more is broke but for sure it is an axle at this point. Not both axles just the driver side. If I put the car in drive I can hear it go in gear but it just free revs when I hit the gas. Would just the drivers side axle be enough to cause the to happen? IMG_2129.jpg

Any of the u-joints broke?

Can you feel the suspension load when you put it in gear with your foot on the brake, or are you just figuring it's in gear because the shifter matches what you selected?

You could've lost a shift solenoid, but if it was only one solenoid, you should have one of the other selections to move the car.

Any of the u-joints broke?

Can you feel the suspension load when you put it in gear with your foot on the brake, or are you just figuring it's in gear because the shifter matches what you selected?

You could've lost a shift solenoid, but if it was only one solenoid, you should have one of the other selections to move the car.
You can hear the exhaust change when putting it in gear

Does it not move forward or reverse?
Used to be in a normal diff forward was the right axle and reverse was the left.

What do you mean free revs? Does the driveshaft turn when you are in gear and give it gas? Sounds like a broken output shaft in the trans.

How common is that? If it were just an axle would the car move?

Sorry this happen Jon, obviously you'll know more when you get the axle out, if it is just the axle I would think about upgrading, I did & went with RE / Demon axles that I found on Ebay with 1k miles on them for 1/2 the price of new.
Do you have 2.62 or 3.09 ?

I’ll have to look in the morning. I was talking to my cousin tonight he asked the same thing and I said I didn’t check and he hit me in the back of the head and said what are you thinking. I said I was thinking about tearing it apart faster than anything else.
Im also newish to the car world and don’t always know the best places to start.

You know I don’t think I ever tried reverse.

If I could find a nice set of used RE axles I’d be real happy.
I guess my next question is renegades vs outlaws. Is it worth the outlaws or do the renegades hold up? I don’t think I have seen negative towards either
Cost wise & just as good as any & still Mopar part, especially if your not going crazy boost level, I would look on Ebay for RE/Demon axles, I have the part #'s if you want them.

We all think it must be a axle when this happens. He did say it wheel hopped and made a boom

I understand & your probably tired & stressed too, get a good night sleep & fresh start in morning.
Really not to stressed. Not happy because I think with better prep it could be avoided. If it ends up being trans related I won't be happy. Because that means I'll either not build a shop next year or end up selling the bike.
I will say I am pretty positive the driver side axle is bad. The chances of something else who knows
