I had an issue with brand new Nitto DR's I bought for another car. The tires literally only had 200 miles on them.....1 day of driving and I picked up a nail. It was very simular to yours....right in the center of the tread. No one would either patch it or plug it. In the center of mine, there is a darker black "bonding strip" in the inside center of the tread where the tire is put together during manufacturing. Its a much softer compound that can't be patched or plugged.

So long as the hole isn't in the bonding strip, it can be patched from the inside. I ended up buying a whole new tire....
This is very interesting. Do you have photos?

There are pros and cons..pros, plug patch is extremely durable and works with belting to seal...cons, loads at strip are extreme...failure at 125+ would be disastrous. That being said, I plug patched a very similar nail hole in a set of 05R's, never had an issue, still have the tires in garage with steel belts showing they were beyond worn...LOL. Still holding air with no problem.
Here's the real question: why are you keeping them? :)

You're absolutely correct.

It's also true that the pulley, correctly installed, won't put your car on it's roof, or into the ditch, or both.
Where's the fun in not being in the ditch on the roof?

@Magnified...Have 2 other sets of rears, 1 with ET r's and the other with the big Hoosiers, guess I've just been lazy, haven't got around to getting any 20" tires for those stock rims.

Fun, but expensive.

Well I'm in a pickle. Looks like the patch isn't going to hold. Introducting the Beadlock 5000, the backsaver 8000000

:ROFLMAO::ROFLMAO::ROFLMAO::ROFLMAO:

You said "I'm in a pickle" and "isn't going to hold"

Yet you are coming back to check on it?

There is a "contradiction" in your post that presents unclearly...

: p
Sorry, quite angry. So the "pickle" is this. I want to be in Streetcar-Takeover this weekend at MIR (Aug 14TH). If the patch does not hold I cannot get another 315 in time. That would mean putting on the 305/45r17 I have which I don't want to as they are brand new. At 1830 the tire was at 32PSI, I will do another check at 1930 and report back. Sorry words, yes I should use them better.

Have you tried Jim's Racing Tires?

What patch kit did you use?
So this was an adventure… the last time I had to patch a radial I used one of my uncles vulcanized patches with matches aka a sizzle patch… get to autozone… OSHA apparently doesnt allow that anymore. Bought Slime… and they are shit. The rubber cement wouldnt hold and went through two patches. Took it down the block to an old school mechanic and he got it right. He laughed when I told him about the last time I patched something. Told me all the new patch kit sucks but he uses the harbor freight ones. All same shit made in China. https://www.harborfreight.com/60-piece-radial-tire-patch-kit-97215.html

I am grateful for his old school wizardry, probably visit him and bullshit some more for fun.

Amazon seems to have "real?" Volcanizing patches/solvent, although I thought heat/pressure was involved with volcanizing?

Man......that lighting the glue on fire patching a tire is some serious old school stuff right there. That's how I learned to patch my bike tires when I was a kid from all the gear heads in my neighborhood.
