Has anyone patched drag radials? Brand new tires and I woke up to this bullshit. Is a patch feasable, any safety issues I should be aware of.

I'd plug it......but that's me.

A patch should be sufficient.

I plugged the drag radials on my car and never had a problem.....and yes.....I went to the track after they had plugs in them.

The plug patch combos are nice. They plug from the inside out and seal to the inside.

I know you don't want to hear this but after the vettes,, I took out an extra warrant on the wheels and tires. I have used it 6 times already. All ee lumium wheels and curbs in Florida are not compatable. Can be expensive. No spell check on this site.

I have patched several sets of DRs, both 555R and ET Street SS, and seen no problems given the hole is small and, as with any tire, not a sidewall issue. Anything special about this one?

EDIT: I did not exceed 130 with the patched tires, that I can remember, FWIW

I’m sure wherever you had it mounted will patch it, I had a small plug that I installed in a tire and slowly leaking that nobody would touch unless I bought a tire.

I had an issue with brand new Nitto DR's I bought for another car. The tires literally only had 200 miles on them.....1 day of driving and I picked up a nail. It was very simular to yours....right in the center of the tread. No one would either patch it or plug it. In the center of mine, there is a darker black "bonding strip" in the inside center of the tread where the tire is put together during manufacturing. Its a much softer compound that can't be patched or plugged.

So long as the hole isn't in the bonding strip, it can be patched from the inside. I ended up buying a whole new tire....

I had a similar thread a few months ago on my PS4S because I was nervous. The tire shop assured me at high speeds I'd be fine. I have only been 140 since the patch on my PS4S tires. IDK at what speed I'll stop trusting it. But 140 was fine.

And as with any tire, just not a PS4S, it will be fine, right up until it's not. The speed rating of the tire relies on the integrity of the belts. If that integrity is compromised, so is the speed rating. I also have plugged/patched tires and then run them up, but I was young then too.

$400 tire
$80,000 car

Food for thought.

; )

Young people as me 400 dollar tire is the cost of a smaller pulley and belt tensioner 😂

You're absolutely correct.

It's also true that the pulley, correctly installed, won't put your car on it's roof, or into the ditch, or both.

By the way, I run plugged tires on my DDs all the time, but they're limited to "normal" speeds.

There are pros and cons..pros, plug patch is extremely durable and works with belting to seal...cons, loads at strip are extreme...failure at 125+ would be disastrous. That being said, I plug patched a very similar nail hole in a set of 05R's, never had an issue, still have the tires in garage with steel belts showing they were beyond worn...LOL. Still holding air with no problem.

Speed rating is done for a period of time like 30 minutes at that speed. I had some small front tires on my mustang that were rated at 112 mph and they did fine over 140 at the track being they were only there for a few seconds
