Even if you don't race this will save your front spoiler/fascia from damage if your car ever needs to be towed.

One nice thing is that the stem can be simply unscrewed from the mount and stowed in the trunk so there is nothing visible.

Agreed, without it, you're almost guaranteed damage if hooked up in the front. Especially if you're lowered like I am.
