- 2017 Dodge Charger SRT Hellcat
I’ve been working with the manufacturer of RaceTCS to adapt a kit for the Hellcat platform. After over a year of development, I’ve got the kit installed and have been testing. The kit is installed on my 2017 Dodge Charger SRT Hellcat. I’m the 2nd owner and it’s my daily driver. It’s got the following mods: JLT Intake, gutted cats, demon injectors, JBX carrier bearing, wide body replica wheels (20x9.5 +15 front and 20x10.5 +22 rear) wrapped in Goodyear All-Season tires in 275/40R20 - all at 42 psi, the motor and trans tuned by myself and of course, RaceTCS. The tires leave much to be desired, as any aggressive throttle input absolutely lights the tires up.
Baseline run: the baseline run was a 13.51 1/4 mile @ 123.45 mph. This run was invalidated because the slope exceeded the allowed amount, however the run for data purposes is valuable. I tried rolling on the throttle from a dead stop but spun all the way through third gear. I had the car in street suspension, track traction control, transmission in normal (tuned for increase shift pressures, lower shift times, etc).
RaceTCS- I’ve been working with the manufacturer since November of 2023 tuning this kit for the hellcat. He’s made it to where out of the six presets, preset 2 is best for when using an all season tire. Presets 1 through 6 all increase in allowable slip for different tire compounds. As instructed, I used preset 2. Part of getting this system to work is data logging and having adjustments done. The development the manufacturer and I have done will serve as a baseline for our platform.
From previous testing, I decided to use the launch control. RaceTCS has made the launch control useable. I have the launch control set to 1500 rpm. I was able to run a 12.3s 1/4 mile @ 122.26 mph. The run was greatly improved because of RaceTCS. There’s definitely some room for improvement in the 0-60 foot range. But in order to be able to leave out of the hole harder, I need a better tire.
Next Steps:
I’ve ordered a set of 305/35/R20 Nitto NT555G2 as my new street/daily tire. I will be testing the car again back to back launching with and without RaceTCS to see if the system helps me launch the car better. I also have a set of 17” Welds wrapped in 305/45/R17 Nitto NT555R2. I will be video recording these runs as well for documentation and launching of my YouTube channel. More to follow.
