Roads ...and pot holes

Happens every year....although we generally don't notice it till Spring...but this year up here in WNY..our roads have taken a beating...we've had snow on the ground for @ least the past month...but prior to that we've had @ least 2 heavy snowfalls...4'/6' plus...followed by a warming trend and rain..the ground becomes super saturated,,,then freezes and thaws...it's wreaking havoc with the roads...we've been in a cold spell for wks. now...with intermittent snow..plows seem to be out daily..and speadin tons of salt...repaired pot holes from last summer get torn up big time by the plows and salt...I never remember it this bad...there is no road maintenance during winter to speak of...come spring our roads are going to be a disaster...I'm picky bout the roads I drive my cars on...even moreso with my bikes...it's down right dangerous....one more thing you southern guys don't have to contend with.....anybody else in other regions of the North experiencing this....or are we the lucky ones here in WNY

You all are the lucky ones, our only problems are an occasional sink hole and a gator crossing the road.

Bumpy roads, dirt roads, potholes, and deer.
Co worker harvested his last deer of the season 2 weeks ago (not by choice).
Hit it on the way into work.
Car was still drivable, so took it home (the deer, that is).

Hit one the other day, the kind that makes you pucker and cringe before you wack it... blew out my TPMS.
NYS is beyond BROKE, I'm certain that the potholes are not a priority. I did see a group out cold patching by my place a week or so ago.

We run trucks over the Louisianna bridge daily to the mills on Ganson street...it's a mine field...two broken springs on "new" trailers already this year...now we divert to Hamburg street...it's a mess

Ohio has two seasons, Winter and Construction!! Although I will say our roads last better than Michigan, local news even did a story a few months ago as winter was starting about the differences and why Ohio's last better than Michigan's even though Michigan has more freeze thaw cycles than N Ohio

So true, so very true! I lived in Ohio for over 50 years, the only time you were surprised, was being on a road without potholes. Been to Michigan many times, the roads were so infested with huge potholes, I wonder how many cars/people were lost and never found!!!

As much as I don't like Howard Stern, he had a good platform for his run for mayor of NYC in 1994, 2/3 of which was dedicated to improving driving conditions:

Stern's platform consisted solely of three things: approving the death penalty in New York, adding more toll collectors on the highways and making sure road construction crews did all their work at night.
