Not in my area unfortunately, but they are where I'm retiring to.

And the weather will be lots nicer year round there too.
Where you going?

Last I checked, that model I posted came in at around $9k
Not anymore. Right around $20K now. Sister just bought 1 with no backseat. It was $14K.

that's ok, I've got a few more years and a pending recession to get through for prices to come back down.

Don't think that I'm ever going to completely retire. I see too many people just sitting around watching TV.

I'm planning on a lot of traveling to to small out of the way places. It will be nice not to be confined by how many vacation days I have from work. I've been waiting my whole life to be retired.

I don't need an extravagant life in retirement, just the time to enjoy it.

We're self employed and take time as we want to. I guess that's the difference?

But I do work when we're traveling.

....You've also - frankly - politicized the pool. Your most popular selection is effectively "climate-change is a lie". Sure, sure, it's technically worded that EVs are a lie,.....
I agree with you that the word "lie" can be misleading, I would not have used it. I would have said: "motivated to fit a political agenda using junk science with no peer review or foundation in scientific principles".

I can understand the OP's objective, as my version would be too long for the poll.

(Edit: Corrected typo.)

These are what I drive the most frequently, within five miles of the house.

The Can Am even has A/C for when it goes to over 70 degrees (mine to the left), as does my girlfriend's HiJet (left in the photo).

And yes, we have two of several vehicles. DSCN4278.JPG

Those little vans are really popular right now. Mitsubishi or something?

No, they make vans, too, but those HiJets (Daihatsu) are little dump bed pickups.

Nope, Japanese, and complete with Toyota engines. And you can buy them new if you want.

To be fair it would be great to gut out the new EV...
I don't think anyone here has anything negative to say about the new body style..
And insert a new Red Eye powertrain.

Unless we don't have gearheads anymore that could do this swap.

For me I think the new EV body is too cool.

And what the masses asked for 15 years ago.

So here's what odd for me. On vacation we've seen some people riding some cool looking bikes that have an electric assist motor and a battery. I thought that was a great way to get around on the beach going from tiki bar to tiki bar. I've considered buying one for putting around locally, but not many bike areas here so I'd likely get run over.

However, I have no interest in that same technology for a car. I'm honestly not sure why I'll consider the bicycle and not the car?

I would for sure be interested in a hybrid, performance model or otherwise, especially for a daily driver. A 300-400 TT gas powered engine with two electric motors for each front tire at 100HP each and I'm very interested. Gas engine charges battery for electric motors and gets 75mpg. Sign me up. Full electric, nope.
I am with ya @Speedy! on all of it. We got an electric mower-ok, we all have lots of hand held electric tools-ok, this little phone charges cheap and easy-ok, I’ll probably get an electric bike for automotive events to get around and probably to tour/exercise a bit near home. I am actually interested in what you describe. A hybrid vehicle. But for lots of reasons I don’t want or think a total EV is a good idea.

Once you use a gas powered leaf blower, you never want to go electric ...

One being that you throw away the driver drill when the batteries die because 2 new batteries cost more than a new driver drill, charger, case and 2 batteries. It's very hard to believe cars will be much different.

I spent my career in product engineering and manufacturing and I must have heard people tell me 1000 times in the last 50 years that manufacturers design their products to fail so they will be able to sell them a new one, they called it Planned Obsolescence. Any attempt I made to say otherwise fell on deaf ears.

Well, here we are today, cars with batteries that can cost $10k-$15k or more, and warrantied to last 8-10 years. Then what? After 10 years of driving you need to drop another $10-15k?!?!? And what is the warranty on the replacement? Anyone wanna’ bet it ain’t goin’ to be no 10 years?!?!?

The so-called Planned Obsolescence has arrived, and it seems like most now embrace it. I have lived my life on another world and I do not understand this one.
