Mentally this is one I'm struggling with, the car feels and runs a lot better under normal driving now. But under WOT when the bypass valve closes would it have a boost leak from there? I can see that it could still leak from the snout, but I'm not so sure about having a boost leak from the blowoff coming from the blower lid at that point with the bypass closed.

Maybe I'm looking at it wrong and over complicating it in my head.
No vac leak with that seal not set right, it would just bypass more air is all under all operating conditions behaving as if the bypass valve is slightly open. While wot or near wot, this would cause your boost to be lower than expected.

Be mindful if you’re still running around on pump gas. Consult with your tuner.

Thanks Z,

You put it much more eloquently than I was able to, but that’s exactly what I was thinking. The car does drive nicer/feel better under partial throttle now and I went back to the 4 inch pulley to log as I figured it would have a boost leak. Currently trying to dial in a race gas tune.

You’ll get it sorted out! Car is a beast, looking forward to seeing what it puts down after you have it dialed in

Went to run the car last night and was hopeful with potential boost leak being fixed. As soon as I left my house the car chucked a check engine light P2098 lean post catalyst fuel trim lean which I found odd as I don’t have cats. Hooked it up to VCM scanner and saw spikes of pulling almost 20% STFT on one bank, gave it a whack of the throttle then the power steering pump started whining. Turned around and went home as I didn’t want to risk it pissing power steering fluid again.

I remembered @zhc telling me about the MMX accessory under drive pulley for the ATI balancer so I ordered that last night and will hopefully have everything sorted out before the next track day which is in a few weeks.

If you need a new power steering pump I have one that works, just no plastic reservoir (had the metal one for a whipple on it)

Wish I knew that lol had to buy an entire new pump when got rid of the whipple because metal tank wouldn’t clear supercharger intakes lol

I have an elbow that bolts onto stock pump to make it remote btw, I think you have a AN fitting welded on yours right?

I appreciate it guys. Luckily I have a spare pump from when I switched superchargers earlier this year and had to go back to the stock reservoir.

I have a 16 with Whipple 3.0 and didn’t have to mess with my power steering pump at all. This something only with the 3.8 Whipple or is the power steering pump being in the way something with using a Maggie? Just wondering as a 3.8 may be in my future

On 3.8L, The big throttle body motor hits the power steering reservoir on cars that still use hydraulic power steering. You’d have to come up with a solution for that like remote mount the reservoir, convert to electric power steering, modify the stock plastic reservoir, or whatever idea you can come up with that you can implement.

I also have a metal tank from a whipple 4.5 that bolts to the top of the stock pump, you reuse the mounting bracket from stock pump/plastic tank. just needs an o ring (I have some laying around)

The reservoir cap on the metal tank needs to be relocated to the other side for that to fit.

Well, one more reason for me to stick with the 3.0. Hopefully a Gen 6 will be on the way soon to replace the twice failed Gen 5
