I've gone full circle on ceramic coatings. It would be different if it was maintenance free, but you still have to wash(frequency dependent on cars' use obviously), and then clay bar and apply a silica-sealant...at least yearly if not every 6 months. You still get some lines and swirls too in it. I ceramic-coated my last two cars and didn't do this one. Just not worth it to me. I drive my car and have it parked outside more than a lot of you on here though so I talk about this as someone who does not have a weekend garage queen.
Paint protection film definitely is worth it to me. Have your paint professionally cleaned/detailed, put paint protection on as much of the car as you can afford, and then keep it coated in a high-end silica-sealant every 3-4 months or so. I can apply/remove silica sealant in almost the same amount of time it takes me to wash it. I use Reload from Carpro.
Good luck!
