Would be interesting to accurately measure that magnetic pull cold, and then again when hot. Magnets loose their pull when heated, which is when you need it most for your application.

You're correct. I asked Mike about that. He uses magnets that have an N-grade of "SH". This means that they maintain 100% of their field strength up to 150C (302F) after which the field will begin to degrade at a rate of 0.11% loss per 1C rise in temp. This means you'd still have nearly 50% field strength at 650C (1202F). If your oil gets that hot you have other problems...
