I would imagine if the stem wasnt actually leaking the sensor could actually still work and send the psi reading. Wild.

Wow, the possibility of this, in this way, didn't occur to me until just now...

Talk about the perfect shear line...

My front passenger TPM shattered two weeks as well. Had the car 6 months and did race on the front tires...about 30 pulls.

The TPMS sensor is not really part of the valve stem or working part of getting air in or out of the tire, it’s just clipped onto the stem for the ride. I’ll see if I have one out in the shop and post a picture of it. You can actually separate the 2 easily and snap them back together.

I have a few laying around here myself. pretty interesting to think it came off the stem and (since that was probably only a failure of plastic) the electronics are still good and it was already taking massive Gs anyway, so a small change in position wouldn't trash it. And, as with tire balancing beads, it probably wouldn't throw the tire way off unless something drastic happens during rotation to force a change of position.

Great experiment (to watch from the outside).

Nope, still works just fine. Even with lasts nights trip to Mexico.
Funny thing about a loose weight in a spinning mass is it will actually help balance as it will migrate to the light area. It only shakes once in a blue moon usually after cornering when it get jostled from its happy place. I have new tires on order
I had an 8" lift 07 Ram 2500 40" Swampers etc and used this stuff called EQUAL to balance the tires. It's just a bag of powder you put in the tire and once it's heated up the bag dissolves and the powder makes it's way around where it needs to be. It worked pretty good I never had any vibrations or driveline noise. Still had the tire hummmm but that was expected. I called around everywhere and no one balanced tires that big and one shop suggested the powder.

So you were not using OEM sensors? Yes take a pic. I wanna see. OEM sensors do not just clip on and off. You have to remove the cup , gasket , nut and cap to get the T bolt (VV stem) out of the sensor. Also if you have not dismounted the tire yet, how do you know what happened? I would relly like to see the broken parts or whatever you find, please.

Yes, oem sensors, Soon as I change them i will post pics. I purchased 2 new ones from dodge to put in my 17” rims and if they are the same as these they are 2 pieces, that’s where I’m making that association.

Another pic of back side, sensor just slides onto that flat clip, held in place by rim once installed

I just installed 6 of these and they do not just clip together. So, I have no idea what you are talking about. Please, be sure and show us pics when you get the tire dismounted.

Turns out TPMS sensor was intact, tire was literally shredded inside, manager of 25+ years at this large tire facility never saw anything like this before. Man am I lucky I didn’t have a blow out at 175+. Moral of this story, NEVER assume something as critical as a tire problem, it could cost you dearly.
New Nitto 555GII’s went on this weekend.

That's some scarry stuff right there. No curb or other impact that you're aware of? Manufacturing defect is my bet then.

Nope, not since I owned it, but the front tires where on the car when I got it, 2015 date code on them. That was the inside edge of the tire not the outside
