Sorry guys didn’t know where else to post this so, here I go.

Last week I heard a different ticking sound when I started the wife’s 2021 Durango R/T. The car has 22k on the clock. I didn’t think anything of it but decided to get it checked out since it’s still under warranty.

The technician determined both exhaust manifolds were leaking. It will take a week to get parts, or so they say.

Anyone else heard of this failure?

Thx

Greg

Friend of mine with a Ram pickup had his exhaust manifold crack. It had a pretty significant tick that I actually told him to go to the dealer to get his lifters checked out because I thought it was the infamous Hemi tick, turned out to be the exhaust manifold crack. He waited a while for the part too, much longer than a week but this was a year ago so...

My 09 Jeep has one. Mine sounds more like a tinny rattle that is more noticeable when it is cold. Common on them for the rear bolt to snap. I hear it way more with the windows down so not real loud

Very well known issue with manifold cracks but especially bolts breaking!! When I did the cam in my Ram I pulled the heads and I had 6 bolts on one side and 5 on the other side that were broken. I got lucky and got all of them out with no issues, but the heads where off. I switched to JBA headers and ARP bolts with factory gaskets, headers are a direct drop in for manifolds with no modifications.

Pretty common issue (bad manifolds and/or the bolts snapping), if you cruise any of the dedicated Durango forums you'll find lots of others with the same issue. At least your dealer didn't stonewall you like so many seem to do with this issue & are fixing the problem !

I heard a strange ticking sound upon start up. It only lasted for a a second or so. Since was so different I took it to the dealership.

went and picked the car up this evening. Yep, both exhaust manifolds have minor cracks. Dealership stated not an issue we will get her fixed. The right side is immediately available. The left side may take a week or so. Fingers crossed.

My friend had the same issue. He just ordered shorty stainless headers and did it himself.

What I did to but if it were still under warranty I would have them fix it also. They did just fix my broken gas tank straps under warranty even at 11 years old, known issue so they extended the service for them to 12 years

My 2017 5.7 Ram had a broken Exhaust manifold bolt and I repaired it myself.
The "upgraded manifold bolts" were the same as what I took out.
