Okay, I am the guinea pig. Easy enough to get to it. NOT. Hardly one of the directions has been correct.

Remove two push pull pins for the side carpet? NOT, first took the carpet and simply ripped it out from the two pins, because they won’t budge. Then took the channel locks and ripped the damn pins out from the steel holes. Keep the one pin that did not go flying, because you will need it to buy two new units to use when the carpet is put back.

It is cool Dodge, put four holes (two on each side) of your controller, but only use three bolts and drilled three holes in the car. Yep, you guys guessed, my mood could be better this morning.

Anyway, here I am holding this thing. Easy as plug and play, huh? Well what I know is this.

Instruction...

5FE76920-4A89-47F1-AC51-A8F70AE97D8F.jpeg

Now here is what I am holding.

This old guy may not be that smart, but I have turned a wrench or two, and I have seen a weird thing or two built in my time. But if I use my gorilla grip, or perhaps help my grip with one or two of my favorite toys and follow that simple instruction to slide those connectors OUT WITHOUT RELEASING SOMETHING SOMEWHERE something bad is going to happen.

Because, there are these interesting rather serious looking retaining something or other thing that may just bust big time if I go attempting to translate either one of these connectors OUTWARD, TO THE LEFT AND RIGHT.

03EB4DA6-5F25-4D4E-82C7-BC8386FBA179.jpeg

CAN SOMEONE PLEASE EXPLAIN TO ME HOW TO REMOVE (WTF TO PRESS AND RELEASE) before I bust something? I am going to go out and do something relaxing like mess with six inches of the white stuff. Hope when I come back someone can enlighten me. Then I will give the appropriate feedback where it is due, so everyone else who does this after me can make the plug and play happen in five minutes as promised:cool:

I’m in a holding pattern for sure. Good luck.

Im wondering if looks are deceiving with those locks. As in maybe the interlocking part you have circled isnt actually part of the slide lock. Without having it in my hands I cant turn it and really look closely but your directions clearly say to just pull the locks outwards with no mention of ‘keep pressure on this tab‘ or something like that. I’m sure you’ve tried just sliding them out though so im no help lol. It does say for re-install that the connector ‘engages‘ while sliding the locks back on so maybe it’s a slide-n-twist-n-pull sort of thing, although it’s a square shaped lock so I have no idea. Weird.
edit:
So after zooming in it looks like those rectangular tabs that youre pointing at might need to be pried up on one end. They look like they are holding the lock from sliding over. Just a guess.

After a closer look it appears to be a slide fwd/aft and pull connector.

I have looked closer. I think the units on the top slide to unlock, let me try some of that.

That sucker has to slide, and that tab deal on the inside has to unlock it first. Don’t go right or left, don’t pry up, don’t push down of course. But that has hold on the slider. It’s a secret handshake.

Ya it does look like the top has room to slide over on both sides if you look close at the outer ends of the top. You may be onto something.

I emailed DS. If they put some in, they know the handshake.

Right now my bad shoulder is aching like a bitch trying to push and pull on this mother. It has to be something to do with that tab, but it is rather stubborn in any direction and I don’t want to crack or bust it. From what I know, this guy has massive data coming in/out of this controller and even a small problem would be a PIA is my easy guess.

When we get it, I’ll movie it up to YouTube and be famous like @Speedy!

Is there one of those locking tabs on each side?

Not specifically, but it really seems like that tab needs to come up high enough to release from the inner section, then that outer-lower section slides outboard. (The upper section with the wires stays still)

But that's what you've been trying already?

I did gently try to pry it up. It did not seem that willing. If someone knows for sure that is the deal, then ya know, a guy can go ahead and pry it up. I am hoping someone has released one or I hear back on email from DS. No biggie, for me, I can’t drive for a while. But at least soon we can solve it for others, because someone will try one on the road before me is my guess.

I am promised a video tomorrow. You can all share the wall of shame with me, as he said it is easy. When I get it installed I’ll do a good write up and pictures so we can wiki it here. I already have a suggestion to add for everyone before you put it away, that will be unique to our house.

All right, time to start other stuff on the girl including finding the remnants of raccoon #2. HCOTY is getting hoisted up!

Agreed. No need to rush. I have had some weird things snap or break in places when I was just putting a little experimental pressure on them. Best to avoid that stuff.

No one has the repair manual for he car? I miss the days when if you had the repair manual all was good with the universe. No guess work (generally!) needed. Now, like the body panel clips I had to break in the Expedition to repair the rear window sprayer, not only is there no mention of how to remove them (or they are single use) you can't even find replacements for them anywhere.

@DGatzby Question. Will this unit set any codes visible to FCA that we can not detect?

Well, I cannot answer that, but a fair question. I will say those two connectors ARE nerve centers! Lots of wires into this magic box folks. It seems like they have all the info from the sensors and CAN Bus they are talking about to control the shocks.

You have a 2019 Redeye right?
