HOLY SH^%!. Don't touch, feel, wipe, let water dry, or LOOK at it the wrong way.. I was gonna matt my hood...but geesh. I matted/satin'ed my last hood with PPG brand paint. It is a PIA and prone to all the things in that guide. PLUS if you have a body shop do it they HAVE TO have a down draft booth to shoot it and its gotta' be clean. Even then you may get micro dust on parts of it. And guess what. They can't sand or buff it.
Yea, my satin hood is a PITA. I’d much prefer, in my color at least, body color hood with carbon stripes, I think it looks meaner as well. It’s sure NOT worth the extra $1,800 for the headache it is to own.
Yea, the hood comes with its own 13 page use and care guide. And it’s true, rub it the wrong way Even with a micro fiber cloth and you have a shiny spot that doesn’t go away.
Sometimes I wonder about IA temps too. I mean flat black gets HOT in the sun so I would wonder if that affects IA temps enough to make a difference especially on the dual snorkel intake on the RE setup now. That's a lot of (hot) surface area for the air to sweep through before it gets to the air cleaner box. Under hood also temps would be affected no? Even with the protective matt you have hot metal stacked on hot air (OCD kicking in. Lol.).....but I do love the look.
Some day, it’s really not that bad for me as car’s not a daily. It’s just a pain after a spray off at car wash (I only use rinse setting) knowing after a quick air dry in Mexico it needs a quick wipe off as water spots require a finisher to remove if let to dry. When it ends up with to many imperfections some day it’ll probably end up getting PPF’d
