Cleetus bought his oval track before he bought 1/2 of the drag strip. He can drive or fly anything he gets his hands on, really talented guy.
He had some NASCAR legends out to his races and they saw the skill and the drive. Biffle hooked him up with RJR and they threw him into a car to see how he would do. First time in a car, he qualified first. During his qualifier, he ran an in car camera which was against the rules, so NASCAR put him on probation, and then changed the rules to allow their cameras to be used in car. On Saturday’s ARCA race, guess who NASCAR had on their YouTube livestream? Cleeter. There were 60k people watching the stream, and untold tens of thousands maybe hundreds of thousands tuned into Fox to watch him race Daytona. NASCAR sees a young talent with a huge following and they’ll make it work.
When I tuned in a little after noon they were showcasing the lady drivers in the race. I didn’t hear anything about Cleetus yet. Then when one of those chicks caused 2 wrecks, the second of which took out Cleetus… the live stream ended and I’m sure viewership on Fox dropped.
Because the qualifier for the race was rained out I think he started at 28. Within 5 laps he was up to 14.
For anyone that hasn’t been following him for a while, he is a champion airplane pilot for touch/go. He has won several jet boat races, was the first 7second GM Stick Shift Car, has won several major championships in drag racing, and almost won his debut in Stadium Super Truck. NASCAR can use him and he loves making left turns.
I wouldn’t promote him so hard if I didn’t really think that he and his crew were the best thing going. My brothers and I will all text when his latest videos drop and we almost watch them “together”. For some of his Cleet & Squirrel stuff, I’ve laughed to tears.
For the record, I think he pushed the “Cleetus” thing a little hard on the air for the NASCAR race… his people will know it’s a joke, not sure everyone else will.
