Hi folks!

I have a problem with starting my Dodge Challenger Hellcat Redeye (2019) when its hot. When the car is cold, then it starts fine and well, but when the engine is hot, then it struggles to start. The car has just gone over 10.000 km and I have no clue of what the problem can be. Has anyone had a similar problem like this before, and any possible solutions of what it can be?

Thanks!

Iggy

Do you start it daily, or just once a week or so?
Battery is about 5 years old, and usually the newer ones only last about 5 years.

Hi mate! I only drive it during summertime, because the weather here in Sweden isn't quite beautiful every day. When im not driving it, that's when im putting it on charge and it stays in place until next summer. Thanks for the reply, and it could very much be that problem.

I will test the battery, and then I'll come back with the answer.

Do you put some sort of fuel stabilizer in before storing for the winter? What you are experiencing could be vapor lock occurring caused by fuel separation and/or 'winter mix' fuel getting overheated.

Easy to test by running out most of the old gas & refilling with fresh, summer mix fuel.

Hi mate!
I had half a tank of 98 octane fuel from last year when I started driving this year. After a short while when I used up this fuel I filled up a full tank with 95 octane fuel which is 10 percent ethanol mixed here in Sweden. After this it started having problems on warm start.

Thanks for the tip!

I am having the same problem. Starting cold, no problem, but hot, barely starts. Our climate is a bit warmer, in the summer time. I have an oil change scheduled in a few weeks, the battery will be checked out...

I had sputtering after sitting for a month hot/humid with e85 in the tank (always e85 in it). Drove it today hot and humid as usual but no issues. Don’t let it sit, start it up. Use a fuel stabilizer

If it started immediately after adding new fuel, I would run the tank completely empty then refuel with gas from a high volume station. When my car no longer displays range and says "Low fuel" I have about 1 gal remaining. Maybe add some water removing additive to the current tank.

Post some pics!

The starter in these cars due to its location near the exhaust gets heat soaked. If it’s starting, it’s fine. Known issue.

These cars have fuel pressure regulation issues and when it gets really HOT in the engine bay the fuel rails get so hot that the pressure gets too high preventing the injectors from working. I would start by replacing ur FPR or the sensor there are 2.

the car just gets heat soaked. All you have to do is pop the hood and open it for a couple minutes let the hot air out then start it up with the hood open all the way. Happens to my charger every once I awhile.. happened to my last one more. Also might want to replace the battery my 2019 I dropped a new battery In it 2 years ago before I traded it. I recommend the Diehard batteries.

My guess is overpressure on the fuel rail from heat. Cool down and it will go. Something is not taking care of the problem. Aftermarket parts on the car ?

Not too awful long ago a friend experienced the same problem who built a '69 Super Bee with Cat engine. I believe he ended up going with a return style fuel system which corrected the problem.. I will see if I can get him to chime in.

From John G:
Factory cars have a bleed off built into the fuel pump assembly in some way, shape or form.. .If that bleeder fails, it will hold pressure, and with the heat soak, will over pressurize the fuel rails holding the fuel injectors closed... easy way to confirm is to have the ne start problem, go to driver side fuel rail and relieve fuel pressure with the Schrader valve.. if it starts right up that is the problem I had to add the return because the aftermarket pump set up I had in the Bee had no type of relief

Sorry to hear you're having these issues. I have a 23 charger redeye with the same issues. It's got nothing to do with the battery. Stellantis have been working on my car for the past 6 months now with no resolution. Happens only on hot starts. This is common apparently and they still haven't found a fix for it.
